Inside Nat's Notebook - Real Reflections for Real Change
Hey Beautiful
When was the last time someone asked, “How are you?” and you answered with anything other than “I’m fine”?
If you’re anything like most women I know, “fine” has become the safety word.
It’s quick.
It’s polite.
And it spares you from actually having to tell the truth!
But here’s the thing: “fine” isn’t a feeling. It’s a mask. And if you’ve been wearing it for years, it’s no wonder you feel disconnected from yourself.
Why You Say “Fine”
Do you say fine while secretly running on fumes?
Wired and tired, anxious, holding it all together, because fine feels safer than honesty?
That’s not a weakness. It’s your nervous system in survival mode.
“Fine” is your brain’s clever way of keeping things under control. It smooths the edges, avoids messy emotion, and lets you pass as “okay.”
But it also keeps you stuck, numb, and disconnected from yourself and everyone else.
What’s Actually Going On
When your body doesn’t feel safe, it won’t let you open up. So instead of a real connection, your system picks the easiest script: “I’m fine.”
You’re not lying; you’re maxed out.
Your nervous system has flipped into autopilot, conserving energy for survival instead of curiosity, laughter, or love.
The First Step to Ditching “Fine”
You don’t have to pour your heart out to the Amazon delivery guy. But you can start being real with yourself.
Next time you hear yourself say “fine,” pause.
Take one slow breath.
Ask: “How am I, really?”
Then listen with your body.
Is your chest tight? Your breath shallow? Your jaw locked?
Your body always answers first; your mind just likes to interrupt.
“Fine” isn’t neutral or polite; it’s your nervous system waving a white flag.
You don’t owe the world a mask.
And you don’t need to settle for fine when you’re built for alive.
This Week, Try This:
Two minutes a day.
Put down the mask and ask yourself: How am I, really?
No judgment. No fixing. Just noticing. This tiny moment of truth-telling starts to rewire your system from survival to safety.
That’s where calm lives. That’s where joy sneaks back in.
Want to go deeper?
This is exactly what we explore inside Soul Sessions, my new membership community for women who are done running on empty and ready to feel better, sleep deeper, and live clearer.
This is not another thing on your to-do list. It’s a space to breathe again, learn nervous-system tools that work in real life, and connect with women who just get it.
The Founding Member doors are open until 30 November 2025, and this is the lowest price I’ll ever offer, plus you’ll help shape what we build together from the inside.
If your body’s whispering yes, listen.
Spaces are intentionally small while we settle this first group, so if you feel the pull, act now.
